Darwin Nunez sends message to Liverpool fans after latest blank

Darwin Nunez has issued a defiant message to Liverpool fans after his struggles in front of goal continued against Girona in the Champions League.

It has been a tough season on the scoring for the striker, who has found the net just three times in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Reds during the current campaign.

Indeed, he has scored just once in his last 12 outings for club and country, and there have been claims he has left his club manager Arne Slot frustrated with recent missed chances.

Nunez again missed some clear opportunities for Liverpool in their 1-0 win over Girona in the Champions League on Wednesday (10 December) as he failed to get on the scoresheet once more.

There have even been suggestions from some fans that the 25-year-old should play a deeper role, after it emerged he has had more fouls and tackles than shots on target in the league this season.

Now Nunez himself has spoken out after that midweek win in Europe with an apparent message of unity, as he wrote on X: “Together we stand, ready for what’s next!”

It is hard to imagine that this current run of form is going to be easy for the striker to cope with in the circumstances.

Given his role, Nunez’s main job is obviously to score goals, and right now he is simply not doing that enough for the level he is playing at, piling the pressure on him.

With Liverpool also competing for trophies on a number of fronts he is going to be desperate to contribute to that success.

Right now though that is not happening with the Uruguayan missing a whole load of chances, which may detract for him personally from his side’s excellent form.

Even so, he has shown in the past that he is capable of scoring some excellent goals, and can return a fairly decent amount for Liverpool when things fall right for him.

It therefore feels important for Nunez to remain focused and confident that he can take those chances, ready for one to go in and start to lift some of the scrutiny from him.
