David Gold: West Ham 23-year-old will get better
By Dominic Toner
West Ham co-owner David Gold has predicted that defender Arthur Masuaku will keep improving.
The 23-year-old moved to the London Stadium in the summer for £6million from Olympiakos and is a pacy left-back that is attack-minded.
However, a serious knee injury has kept him out of action for the majority of the season and he has made just nine appearances.
Gold revealed on Wednesday that Masuaku is set to return to the Hammers squad on February 25 against Watford as he edges closer to full fitness.
Gold is excited about the prospect of the defender and feels “he’s young” and “will get better”, as cited by his official Twitter account.
Masuaku will be competing for a spot at left-back against Aaron Cresswell when he returns, who has come under criticism from some fans in recent weeks.
Slaven Bilic’s side have managed to get rid of any early season concerns of relegation and are up to 10th-placed in the Premier League table.
Masuaku will be desperate to force his way back into the starting XI and prove to supporters he deserves a start.
The Frenchman is currently experiencing his first season in English football and will hope to make his comeback against Watford.
