David Moyes’ new Everton plan revealed after ‘important’ deals agreed

David Moyes has a new plan for the future at Everton following confirmation of a number of important deals.

It has been a summer of change at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin departing after a nine-year spell at the club and Abdoulaye Doucoure also leaving on a free.

However, Everton did secure the future of Jarrad Branthwaite, as he signed a brand new contract with the Toffees in July.

Then last week, James Tarkowski put pen to paper on an extension, which will see him remain on Merseyside until 2028.

David Moyes is building for the future

Jordan Pickford is expected to sign a contract extension at Everton in the coming days and will become the latest player to do so.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Moyes is building for the future on Merseyside after the recent deals.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the former West Ham manager is ensuring he has the backbone to his squad sorted, now that the likes of Tarkowski and Pickford are tied down.

Wyness added that there is quality at Everton too, with Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Iliman Ndiaye among others.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s important. We saw a lot of change in the summer with around nine coming in, so the dressing room needs to have strong figures anchoring it.

“Everton have got Seamus Coleman, but have also now tied down Tarkowski and Pickford, who I believe are two of the main personalities. It’s very, very important to have that sort of anchor in the dressing room.

“They’ve both been performing at a very high level consistently, and they’ve obviously got the experience and they’re enjoying it under Moyes, so I think it’s important to keep that stable, happy ship. I think it’s a good move by the club.

“There’s no doubt Moyes is building for the future, and I think he will want to get that stable backbone. I know when I was working with Moyes, we had the most successful period in this century for the club and that was built on stability.

“It was exactly that, making sure you had a core of about eight players that were consistent, and I think that’s what he’s aiming for again because it works.

Now they’re getting the quality with the likes of Dewsbury Halls, Grealish, and Ndiaye. It’s really exciting to see that sort of thing coming together.

“They’re starting to build a squad, and that’s the most important thing there. A lot of them are of the quality that we want to see longer term and the right age as well.”

Everton to secure further deals after Jordan Pickford

After the Pickford news is confirmed, Everton will begin work on tying down two more first-team players.

James Garner is out of contract at the end of this season, and according to The Times, Moyes’ side are looking to agree a new deal with the midfielder.

Garner has been one of the Toffees’ standout players so far this season, playing every single minute in the Premier League.

Everton are also working to extend the contract Vitalii Mykolenko, who has less than a year left on his current deal.
