David Moyes’ pal: West Ham have trick ‘up their sleeve’ after latest twist

Danny Mills has suggested David Moyes has a trick up his sleeve and will be able to sort out the West Ham defence.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England defender and close friend of Moyes admitted Issa Diop’s injury is “not ideal”.

The Guardian reported on Tuesday (19 April) the 25-year-old may now miss the rest of the campaign after picking an ankle injury during the 1-1 draw against Burnley last weekend (17 April).

It leaves Craig Dawson as the club’s only senior centre-back going into their crucial two-legged Europa League semi-final with Eintracht Frankfurt.

One solution is Declan Rice who has operated at centre-back in the past.

“David Moyes is superb defensively,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s got some great coaches in there as well, defensively-minded coaches. He will work that out.

“They will have known for a while that this could be a problem so they will make sure they have it sorted one way or the other.

“It’s not ideal but when you get to this stage of the season it’s an opportunity for somebody, an opportunity for someone to make a name for themselves.

“They might have something up their sleeve, they’ve had plenty of time to work on it in training.

“David Moyes knows what he’s doing. He knows how to set a team up to be defensively solid and not get beaten. Look at the players he’s brought in to do that.

“It’s not the perfect scenario but I would put all my faith in David Moyes being able to work it out.”
