‘David Moyes to rage at Thomas Tuchel over Jarrad Branthwaite news at Everton’

David Moyes will likely be fuming at England manager Thomas Tuchel after a huge update on Jarrad Branthwaite’s Everton future.

Everton were “doing everything” to agree a new contract with Branthwaite, Pete O’Rourke exclusively revealed to Football Insider in March.

It seemed those efforts were close to paying off, with Stefan Borson revealing Branthwaite could sign a contract worth £150,000-a-week.

However, a decision by Tuchel may have spoiled Everton and Moyes’ efforts to keep the highly-rated defender at the club this summer.

Thomas Tuchel favours Dan Burn and Jarrel Quansah over Jarrad Branthwaite

As reported by Sky Sports via X, “Branthwaite is expected to further consider his Everton future after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad”.

The defender has been an integral part of the Toffees’ resurgence under Moyes and has generally been outstanding since returning from a loan at PSV Eindhoven last season.

Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah were both favoured over Branthwaite for Tuchel’s squad to face Albania and Latvia.

Whilst both fine defenders in their own right, and the Newcastle man riding the high of scoring in the Magpies’ Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool, the decision to leave out the Everton defender is still a puzzling one.

Quansah in particular has endured a disappointing season at Anfield and only started twice in the Premier Leauge, making his inclusion over Branthwaite is a surprise.

Meanwhile Burn is 32-years-old and has arguably been less impressive overall in a far more capable side than the 22-year-old this season.

There are now major concerns brewing at Goodison Park that the 22-year-old could follow in the footsteps of other English stars who left his club in order to get into the England squad.

As suggested by the report, Branthwaite may have been overlooked due to playing for Everton, who find themselves near the bottom of the Premier League table.

This decision is likely to be infuriating for Moyes, with his star defender now considering his future at the club.

This would not be the first time an English star has been forced to move on from their side to a more “reputable” team, after Jack Grealish made the blockbuster move to Man City from Aston Villa in 2021, having been consistently left out by then-England boss Gareth Southgate.

With Liverpool and Man City amongst the teams interested in Branthwaite, as well as Man United, Everton will now face the tricky proposition of attempting to convince their star man to stay at the club this summer, but Tuchel’s decision may have pushed the defender closer to an exit from Goodison Park this summer.
