David Moyes told to overhaul West Ham XI after what pundit’s seen ‘it’s got to change’

Noel Whelan has claimed West Ham boss David Moyes will be forced to field a blend of experience and fringe players in their Europa Conference League tie at Viborg on Thursday (25 August).

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Irons need “a spark” – with a big win potentially breathing “confidence” into their so-far dismal league campaign.

West Ham travel to northern Denmark on Thursday (25 August) having already raced into a 3-1 lead in their Europa Conference League playoff against Viborg.

However, the Irons have lost all three of their league engagements thus far this term and are yet to score a goal in the Premier League.

The Irons are rock bottom of the top flight – the only team yet to register a point.

West Ham face Viborg, Aston Villa, and Tottenham in the space of eight days as the new campaign ramps up.

Whelan claimed the Irons will need to field some experience in their European second leg despite the early-season fixture congestion.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think you’ll see a mixture of first-team and bench players.

“They need the experience to see the game through on Thursday.

“Winning breeds winning, and confidence – but these fringe players need some game time. They will know that if they can impress, they will play in these league games.

“They need a spark, they need goals, they need to get off the mark – and they need this quickly.

“You can’t afford to be lingering around the bottom too long in the Premier League.

“It’s got to change very quickly.”
