David Prutton predicts Leeds v Huddersfield

By Will Butcher

David Prutton believes Leeds will earn a point away from home against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield this weekend.

The two sides, who are both looking to close the gap on top two Newcastle and Brighton, go head to head at the John Smith’s Stadium at midday on Sunday.

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton, who played for Leeds between 2007 and 2010, believes Leeds will secure a 1-1 draw against David Wagner’s Championship high flyers.

“This is a tough one to call,” Prutton claimed. “Whether all the players understand it or not, the fans will let them know how big an occasion it is.

“Huddersfield have been good at home this season and Leeds have been good at grinding out results so I can’t see anything separating them.”

Leeds currently sit in fourth, just one position and two points above Huddersfield, but the Terriers have a game in hand over Garry Monk’s side.

Five wins out of their last six Championship games has seen Leeds continue to defy pre-season expectations of a mid-table finish under former Swansea boss Monk.

However, they will have their work cut out in making it six with rivals Huddersfield winning seven of their last nine league games.

A win for either side in Sunday’s hotly-contested encounter could prove crucial in the Championship promotion hunt, as Leeds look to return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2003-04.

Prutton, who is now working in the media as a pundit after retiring in 2014, made 78 league and cup appearances for the Whites during his three-year spell at Elland Road.

In other Leeds news, Eunan O’Kane delivered this verdict after securing a late 2-1 win against Blackburn on Wednesday night.
