David Sullivan looks ready to make same old West Ham transfer mistake yet again

David Sullivan doesn’t appear to have learned from some of his previous transfer mistakes at West Ham.

The Hammers find themselves rooted in a potential relegation battle after an awful start to the Premier League season, and the January window could be pivotal to help them fire themselves to safety.

West Ham are in the race to sign Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo this winter, while they are also plotting potential moves for the likes of Franculino Dju.

The goalkeeping situation in E20 has come under scrutiny again at the start of Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign, and fresh action may be about to be taken once the window opens.

West Ham pursuit of Zion Suzuki may ‘reappear’ in January

West Ham paid £20million to sign Mads Hermansen from Leicester City in the summer, with a view to him becoming the new long-term number one.

However, the Dane endured a horrific start to life in East London in the opening weeks of the season, and has since fallen firmly back behind Alphonse Areola in the pecking order, the very man who he was signed to replace.

As a result, the Hammers are seemingly still on the lookout for another option between the posts this winter, and it seems as though they could potentially launch another attempt to sign Parma stopper Zion Suzuki.

West Ham enquired over the Japan international’s services in the summer, and it’s thought that their interest could “reappear” in January, according to Tutto Mercato.

The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and Parma have already secured his replacement in former Crystal Palace gloveman Vicente Guaita, so the door could be open for the Irons to strike.

Zion Suzuki is currently out injured for Parma

West Ham are finally set to get rid of Niclas Fullkrug after just under 18 months of relentless injury issues.

Sullivan and Co. have a frustrating history of signing injury-prone players, and they could be about to fall into that same trap yet again if they move for Suzuki in January.

The shot-stopper is currently out of action with a broken hand and is likely to be out until the latter stages of February, according to Transfermarkt.

West Ham made hard work of their bid to find a new first-choice ‘keeper in the summer, and the last thing that they will want is for Suzuki to come in and immediately pick up another knock.

With that in mind, they must approach the situation with caution and potentially even turn their attention elsewhere in order to cover themselves.
