Davide Ancelotti pens emotional Real Madrid goodbye as Rangers step up manager search
Davide Ancelotti has taken to social media to send an emotional goodbye message to Real Madrid fans, amid interest from Rangers.
Ancelotti has spent the last four years with Los Blancos, working as an assistant coach with his father Carlo, who has recently announced his departure from Real Madrid.
The 14-time European Cup winners have had a difficult season, after being beaten to the Spanish league title by Barcelona.
Position | Team | Games | Points |
1 | Barcelona (C) | 37 | 85 |
2 | Real Madrid | 37 | 81 |
3 | Atletico Madrid | 37 | 73 |
4 | Athletic Bilbao | 37 | 70 |
Barca also beat Madrid in the Copa Del Rey final, and Ancelotti’s side were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Arsenal.

Ancelotti says farewell to Madrid
With his father on the move, Davide will also be leaving Real Madrid this summer, to perhaps begin his own career in management.
The former AC Milan player took to social media to say farewell to Madrid fans, posting a photo of him standing on the Bernabeu pitch.
The caption said that he felt honoured to be part of Real Madrid’s history, and thanked the players, staff, and fans.
Ancelotti then hinted at the future, saying: “It is the start of a new phase for me. With excitement, with respect, and with the desire to apply everything I have learned here.”
The 35-year-old will follow Carlo to Brazil, where the pair will take charge of the South American side’s games against Ecuador and Paraguay, but it is expected he may not be in that role long.
Rangers have an interest in Ancelotti, despite his inexperience as a solo manager, with former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson exclusively telling Football Insider that the move would be a “calculated gamble.”
Rangers must end manager saga
Football Insider Verdict
It is set to be an incredibly busy summer on the blue side of Glasgow, with new owners and a new manager expected to be in place by the start of next season.
With a domestic campaign to forget now done and dusted at Ibrox, full attention turns towards the 49ers’ soon-to-be-confirmed takeover of Rangers, and their managerial hire must follow soon afterwards.
As well as Ancelotti, Rangers have been linked with Russell Martin, with rumours also suggesting that Steven Gerrard could be making a dramatic return to Ibrox.
Of course, the Gers already have a manager in the dugout on an interim basis, but it is unlikely that Barry Ferguson will take charge of another Rangers game.
From the outside, it seems like it is absolute chaos at the 55-time Scottish champions, and they will need to ensure that they get pieces in place quickly to try and challenge Celtic next season.
