Declan Rice update from Times ‘music to the ears’ of Man United – Campbell

Declan Rice’s refusal to sign a new contract at West Ham will be “music to the ears” of Man United, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old is a player needed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to the Telegraph‘s Matt Law (August 21st), Rice is frustrated by the club pricing him out of a big-money move this summer.

The England international is set to subsequently reject the Irons’ offers of a pay increase and contract extension in an attempt to force a mega-money exit.

Man United and Chelsea have both held an interest in the centre-midfielder, who has three years remaining on his current deal at the London Stadium.

Solskjaer currently boasts Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic as his central midfield options.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Rice’s refusal to sign a new deal, Campbell said:

“That is music to Man United’s ears because they definitely need a player like him. The Southampton game highlighted it.

“They need dominant player in the midfield. Pogba is dominant going forward but they need a defensive rock.

Man United

“Fred and McTominay are good players but they are not on the level of Declan Rice. He is a step up.

“I think the time will come sooner or later for Rice to move on. He is ready to play at the top level.”
