‘Someone to look at’ – 19-year-old starlet reveals Celtic man he wants to follow footsteps of

Celtic right-back Anthony Ralston has revealed that he hopes that his loan move to Dundee United will allow him to emulate Hoops left-back Kieran Tierney in the long run.

Whilst the 20-year-old Tierney has become a first-team regular for the Hoops, Ralston has struggled with injuries and recently joined the Tannadice club on an emergency loan in an attempt to get some playing time.

Despite not being involved with the Hoops at the moment, Ralston is confident that the move to the Championship side can only be a good thing.

“It is a positive thing coming here. I had a bad injury and Brendan Rodgers has allowed me to come and get this experience. I am happy he did,” Ralston said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, before turning his attention to Tierney.

“Kieran is definitely someone to look at and every player who has come through the youths is looking to achieve what he has achieved.”

Ralston returns to the Hoops in the summer, and will be looking to make a first-team breakthrough on a regular basis next season.

Football Insider verdict

It’s laudable for Ralston to want to follow in the footsteps of Tierney but at the moment he is a long way away from matching the heights reached by his Hoops team-mate. Tierney is one of the best players to come out of Scotland in years, one of the rare youth players at the Hoops who makes it. Ralston may well go onto to have a good career with the Bhoys, and his spell at Dundee United should toughen the player up and give him some much needed playing time. It will be interesting to see if he gets the nod to play in the Champions League qualifiers in July, as Mikael Lustig will sill be absent after playing in the World Cup.
