Dejphon Chansiri responds as major Sheffield Wednesday takeover news emerges

Sheffield Wednesday owner and chairman Dejphon Chansiri has responded to a major takeover development at the Championship club.

The South Yorkshire outfit endured a largely inconsistent second-tier campaign, but finished 12th thanks to a three-game unbeaten run at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday future is in doubt amid interest from Rangers, who are vying to close the gap between themselves and fierce rivals Celtic.

Rohl has performed well at Hillsborough, especially during the 2023/24 season in which he steered the Owls clear of relegation in trying circumstances.

Chansiri rejects Sheffield Wednesday takeover bid

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Rohl’s future, Wednesday will be intent on enjoying a strong summer transfer window, while star man Josh Windass addressed links to Spanish side Valencia.

Meanwhile, Chansiri rejected an initial offer from a Florida-based consortium who attempted to buy the Championship club.

The Sheffield Star [27 May] have subsequently revealed that the Wednesday owner has now turned down an improved second offer from the same group, which the report adds is made up of successful business people and professional athletes.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters will want Chansiri to sell

The Owls fanbase will likely be disappointed by the news that Chansiri has turned down another offer from the Florida-based consortium to purchase the South Yorkshire club.

Since buying the club in 2015, Chansiri has overseen turbulent times at Wednesday, who suffered relegation to League One in 2021, and subsequently spent two seasons in the second tier before beating local rivals Barnsley in the 2023 playoff final.

Even though then boss Darren Moore won promotion from League One, he departed Hillsborough in the summer of 2023, showcasing his difficulties under the Wednesday owner.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown exclusively informed Football Insider that Rohl has a poor relationship with Chansiri.

As reported by BBC Sport, Wednesday failed to pay their players’ wages in March, epitomising the owner’s financial mismanagement of the South Yorkshire side.

The Owls faithful would surely prefer to see a different owner and chairman at the helm ahead of next season.
