Dele Alli could force Tottenham U-turn after ‘worrying’ update – Robinson

Dele Alli’s Tottenham future is in his own hands, according to Paul Robinson.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 25-year-old can play his way into Antonio Conte’s long-term plans if he continues his current vein of form.

Alli was a second-half substitute in last night’s 2-1 League Cup win over West Ham.

The cameo appearance comes after an impressive 81 minutes in a thrilling encounter against Liverpool on Sunday.

According to The Athletic‘s Jack Pitt-Brooke (22 December), Spurs are looking to offload Alli and his teammate Matt Doherty next month.

Alli’s contract in north London runs until the summer of 2024.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the attacking midfielder’s future, Robinson said: “Alli has been given an opportunity this week.

“Whether that opportunity was to put him in the shop window, or because he genuinely has a future at Spurs, he took it. He showed everyone what he can do.

“Things change very quickly in football. One week you’re worried you might not be wanted and the next you play and make yourself undroppable.

“Alli can play himself into a Spurs future, regardless of what the situation is currently.

“He played really well against Liverpool in what was a fantastic game. It was one of the best games I have seen in a long time. If there was ever an advert for football to carry on, that was it.”
