Dele Alli: Lampard tipped to hand new Everton star special training regime – pundit

Alex McLeish has tipped Frank Lampard to organise special training sessions at Everton to build Dele Alli’s confidence back up.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old needs to find a way to “get his mojo back” at Goodison Park.

The new signing came off the bench to make his debut in Everton’s 3-1 defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday (8 February)

McLeish admitted he could see the attacking midfielder was “struggling with his confidence” at St James’ Park.

He tipped Lampard to tailor his training sessions to try and build Alli’s self-belief away from the pressure of a matchday.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Dele, how many times have we spoken highly about him? I think he’s got to find a bit of confidence and rhythm.

“Definitely, you could see that he is struggling with his confidence.

“He’s got to believe in himself that the quality will come back if he does start and get minutes. How does he get his confidence back?

“There will come a situation where the manager may say: ‘I don’t know if I can risk him. He’s not playing anywhere near (the levels expected).’

“What you have to do is organise training sessions and see if he gets his mojo back.”

Alli scored just two goals in 18 appearances for Tottenham this season before joining Everton.

He made 13 starts for the Lilywhites this term, only four of which came under Antonio Conte.

Everton currently sit 16th in the table and face fellow strugglers Leeds United on Saturday.
