‘Desperate’ Greg Taylor verdict issued after what pundit has seen at Celtic
Alan Hutton has claimed Greg Taylor is “desperate” to be a starter and will thrive off the competition at Celtic this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender suggested Taylor is “in charge of the situation” and will be a regular starter if he plays well consistently.
Despite bringing in another left-back, the 24-year-old has started both games of the new season under Ange Postecoglou.
Taylor played 90 minutes on Saturday (7 August) as the Hoops beat Ross County 3-1.
Celtic signed fellow left-back Alexandro Bernabei, 21, from Lanus in a deal worth £3.75million.
Hutton suggested that competition from Bernabei for a spot in the starting line-up will benefit the Scotland international.
“The competition looks good for him. It’s driving him on and he’ll become a better player because of it,” he told Football Insider.
“It depends on you as a person, I think there’s two ways you can go when you’ve got competition. You can either thrive off it or you crumble and the person takes your place, that’s as simple as it is.

“He seems to be the type of guy that’s desperate to play, he wants to be in a winning team and he’s shown that with his performances.
“Obviously he’s in charge of the situation at this moment in time. If he plays at a high level he’s going to be a starter. So it’s up to him to maintain that level throughout the season.“
