‘Desperation’ – Chris Sutton tears Rangers to shreds for manager decision

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has torn Rangers to shreds for their ‘desperate’ decision to appoint Graeme Murty as manager until the end of the season.

The Light Blues announced on Friday that Murty will be put in charge at Ibrox after winning six of his nine games in caretaker charge while the club has looked for a permanent successor to Pedro Caixinha.

The Portuguese boss was sacked almost two months ago in late October and Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes was made the No 1 target to replace him.

However McInnes rejected the chance to become the next Rangers manager after an approach was made with a compensation fee widely reported to be around £1million.

Now, BT Sport pundit Sutton has claimed that the Gers look as though they’re a club with no money and adds that director of football Mark Allen appears to be the real man in charge at the moment.

“I don’t think that it was the wise choice at all,” he said, as shown on BT Sport Football’s official Twitter account on Saturday morning.

“It smacks of desperation, it smacks of a club that doesn’t seem to have any money.

“They have taken the cheap option, the easy option. I wish Graeme Murty will be he’s not an experienced manager, for me they needed an experienced guy to go in at the helm.

“Mark Allen appears to be the manager at Rangers and Graeme Murty appears to be powerless.”

Murty has won six of his nine games in charge of the Light Blues in the past two months, earning victories against the likes of Aberdeen and Hibernian.

However defeats to Hamilton, Dundee and St Johnstone has left the Glasgow giants well off the pace in the Premiership title race, that was blown wide open last week when Celtic lost 4-0 to Hearts.

In other Rangers news, this Gers striker could be on his way to sign for a London club in January.
