‘Devastating’ Liverpool claim issued as pundit ‘baffled’ by new Sadio Mane twist
It will be “devastating” for Liverpool if they lose Sadio Mane this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted he was “baffled” that Liverpool are prepared to lose the 30-year-old.
The Athletic reported on Wednesday (1 June) that Bayern Munich are leading the race for Mane and the Reds want around £42.5million as he enters the final year of his contract.
The Senegal international wants to pursue a new challenge after a six-year trophy-laden stint at Anfield.
“Liverpool will probably want to get a fee for him rather than let him leave on a free next summer, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“The problem for Mane is that all the talk has been about [Mohamed] Salah and his contract. It’s Salah this, Salah that. Nobody’s really been talking about Mane.
“He’s probably told Liverpool he wants a certain amount of money and a certain contract and they said they can’t give him it. So he’s decided he wants to leave and go somewhere where he will get what he deserves.
“He’s not leaving Liverpool because he really wants to try a new challenge at Bayern Munich. You wouldn’t leave one of the best teams in the world to join Bayern Munich even though they are a good team.
“He’s leaving because he doesn’t feel he’s getting what he deserves.
“It’s the same with Salah. He’s staying because he’s got a year left. He won’t sign a new contract unless he gets what he deserves.

“As much as Liverpool will not want to pay, it will affect them next season. You’ve got your rivals strengthening with Erling Haaland and you’re going to let one of your best players go? It baffles me.
“Mane leaving is devastating to Liverpool. Some fans won’t believe that but after two or three months of the season, they will miss Mane’s goals.”
