A shock reported Liverpool swoop for Ousmane Dembele suggests Jurgen Klopp has made up his mind to sell Xherdan Shaqiri and Harry Wilson.

Sky Sports Italy's transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio revealed today the Merseysiders have approached Barcelona to table a loan-to-buy offer for Dembele.

It has been knocked back by the 23-year-old, who is said to want to stay and prove himself at Camp Nou.

But the move gives some insight into the summer transfer strategy of Klopp and the Liverpool recruitment team.

The manager seemingly wants an A-list attacking star to add to his title-chasing side and that could mean Dembele as well as RB Leipzig's Timo Werner.

Dembele is a left-footed forward who prefers to operate from the right flank, just like Anfield talisman Mohammed Salah.

It is also the modus operandi of two other Liverpool attackers, Shaqiri and Wilson.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week the Premier League leaders will listen to offers for the Bournemouth loanee this summer despite three impressive spells out on loan.

Liverpool also intend to offload Shaqiri, who has been only a fringe player since his arrival from Stoke City two years ago.

One player who Klopp will not be letting go is the teenage sensation Elliott, another left-footed forward who prefers to operate on the right.

It has not yet been announced, but that is expected to be a formality in the coming weeks.

Elliott has already accumulated seven senior appearances, six of them as a starter in cup competitions, despite spending most of the season playing for the Under-23s.
