Diallo ‘could power Rangers to title’ after ‘tremendous’ development – Whelan

The signing of Amad Diallo could inspire Rangers to retain the Scottish Premiership this season, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of the 19-year-old’s Gers debut, claimed the capture is evidence of what an “attractive proposition” the Ibrox side is.

Diallo marked his first Rangers appearance by grabbing the opening goal as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were held by Ross County in a pulsating 3-3 draw on Saturday (29 January).

The Gers confirmed they had secured the loan capture of the Man United winger on Thursday (27 January).

The four-cap Ivory Coast international has made just nine appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once.

Whelan claimed the winger’s arrival could shift the momentum back in favour of Rangers – who have endured a poor run of form in recent weeks.

“Wow, Diallo coming into this squad could be the difference between first and second for Rangers,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I think this signing is absolutely tremendous. The quality he has added to that side is vital. He’s a real winner, and a Premier League calibre player.

“Him coming in could be the tipping point which could shift this momentum and power Rangers through to the league title.

“It’s really good business by Rangers and it just shows what an attractive proposition they still are.”

Man United signed Diallo from Atalanta for a reported potential fee of £37.2m in 2021.
