Dier tipped to quit Tottenham as Mourinho plots reported raid for 28-year-old – Phillips

Kevin Phillips has tipped Eric Dier to leave Tottenham this summer if another centre-half is signed.

The former Sunderland and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old position at the club would be in serious doubt if another centre-half was signed.

Dier was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Arsenal – the fourth consecutive Premier League game in which he has been named on the bench by Jose Mourinho.

The England international, who has played exclusively at centre-half this season, has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Spurs having renewed terms last July.

Phillips believes Dier will have a big decision to make at the end of the campaign.

“Eric Dier will always have a question mark over his name,” he told Football Insider. “Is he a centre-half? Is he a sitting midfielder?

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Spurs signed a centre-half in the summer and Eric struggled to get in the side next season.

“If they do sign someone I think he will have to have consider his future. It might be time for him to move on. There will be a number of big decisions at the club this summer.

“Dier has fallen out of favour at the moment and he is not getting into that side after playing a lot of football. Mourinho’s team selection over the past month or so will be a concern for Eric Dier.”

The Mirror claim Mourinho is considering a summer move for Southampton defender Jannick Vestergaard.

The Denmark international, 28, is entering the final year of his contract at St Mary’s and could be available for a knockdown fee at the end of the season.
