Diogo Dalot: ‘It’s been some turnaround’ at Man United after update on two new deals

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Diogo Dalot and Fred as Man United prepare to offer the duo new deals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker insisted both players are deserving of extensions.

Dalot, 22, and Fred, 28, are both out of contract in the summer of 2023.

According to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden (21 February), the duo are expected to be offered new long-term deals.

Fred started United’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, while Dalot watched on from the bench.

The latter has re-ignited his Old Trafford career since the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager.

When asked by Football Insider if he was surprised to hear the duo are set to be offered new terms, Campbell said: “I like Dalot.

“He is a really good player who is still very young. He has shown that he can play right-back and can perform in the Premier League and look good.

“It’s been some turnaround but that’s because he’s been given an opportunity. He’s taken his chance.

“It would be a good move from the club to get him tied down to a new deal.

“In regards to Fred, he’s much maligned but I think he’s done a very good job when called upon. Most of the time he performs in that midfield. He is coming up with some important goals as well.

“Ultimately, Fred will be a squad player but you need players like him who can come in and do a job.”
