Diogo Jota: Campbell thrilled as Liverpool controversy analysed – ‘you’re going to get done’
Kevin Campbell is thrilled to see Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was awarded a penalty after being grappled to the floor against Watford.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker claimed not enough penalties have been awarded for similar situations in the past.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day (4 April), Juraj Kucka brought down Jota, 25, when defending a corner in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-0 win on Saturday.
VAR operator John Brooks flagged the incident to referee Stuart Attwell who, after consulting the pitchside monitor, pointed to the spot.
Fabinho converted the resulting penalty to seal the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side after Jota opened the scoring in the first half.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the incident, Campbell said: “Grabbing someone in the box is one thing.
“Grappling them to the floor is another. You are going to get done if you do that. That is the issue.

“Yes, sometimes a grab of the shirt is allowed. You cannot grapple them to the floor with your back to the ball though. You leave the referee no choice in that situation. That is a penalty every day of the week.
“I’m glad it was given. It doesn’t matter which team it is. If you do that to a player it is a penalty. We have seen some of those not given in the past. They should be though.”
