Dion Sanderson ‘looks like a Rangers signing’ after latest twist – expert
Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers need to bring in reinforcements at centre-back in the January window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said Dion Sanderson “looks like a Rangers signing” after what he has seen from the player.
According to footballscotland (1 January), the 23-year-old is a target for the Light Blues and scout John Park has been sent to watch the defender recently.
The centre-back is currently on loan at Birmingham City from Wolves and it is said that he does not have a recall option.
This means Birmingham would have to allow any sale to Rangers but the Blues are also said to be keen on signing Sanderson on a permanent contract.
Wolves are said to be looking for around £3million for the centre-back who can also play at right-back.
His current deal with the Premier League side runs until 2025.
Hutton insisted Rangers are lacking depth in the central defensive area.
“I think if you look at the centre-half position at this moment in time, [Filip] Helander will probably leave, [John] Souttar can’t stay fit, [Ben] Davies is coming on to a game but he has got his injury problems,” he told Football Insider.
“So it is Goldson plus one.

“I have seen a fair bit of him, he is a big aggressive centre-back, he likes to play with the ball, he can drive out and make things happen. So he suits that Michael Beale mould.
“He looks like a Rangers signing to me.“
