‘Disaster’ – Liverpool fans demand club terminate player after what he did vs Burnley

Liverpool fans have lambasted Ibrahima Konate online after his poor defending allowed Burnley to equalise and snatch a point at Anfield on Saturday.

Konate started alongside long-time defensive partner Virgil van Dijk on Merseyside, but their frailties were exposed once more against the Premier League’s 19th-placed team.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s missed penalty was quickly forgotten in the first half as Florian Wirtz lashed home to make it 1-0 before the break.

The Reds failed to take several big chances to double their lead and effectively put the game beyond reach, as Marcus Edwards soon equalised for the Clarets just after the hour mark.

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley, with many fans attributing the visitors’ equaliser to Konate’s lacklustre defending.

Konate stood off Edwards as he struck Burnley’s equaliser

Konate has been slammed by Liverpool fans on numerous occasions so far this term, with his performances suffering a clear drop-off compared to last season.

He had very little to do against Burnley until the 65th minute, when quick winger Edwards found space on the left side of the area and finished smartly from an angle past Alisson.

Konate should have seen and reacted to Florentino’s pass a lot quicker than he did, but Edwards already had a yard on him by the time he latched on to it and scored.

As well as that particular moment, the Frenchman’s one accurate long ball from five attempts showed that he was detrimental to the Reds’ chances of scoring a winner more than anything else.

Liverpool now sit on 36 points after 22 games, which is 17 fewer than they had at the same stage last season.

Slot’s side have little chance of repeating their league title win, despite being sat in fourth on a 12-game unbeaten streak, with just five points between them and 10th-placed Fulham.

Sources have previously told Football Insider that Liverpool are open to offers for Konate in January, with his contract set to expire in the summer, and that is not a surprise considering his poor showings this term.

Taking to X to react to Konate’s performance against Burnley, one fan said: “Konate leaving for a free is not good enough. He needs to be paid to go. Useless defender at the scene of every crime all season.

While another added: “Konate moves like he’s pulling a cart. Big useless defender, get him gone.”

And one supporter said: “I honestly cannot wait to see the end of this season. If we dare extend Konate’s contract after the season he’s had. I actually can’t wait to see the back of him.”
