‘Disaster’, So bad’, ‘Stop’ – Liverpool fans destroy reported £90k-a-week man in display v Stoke

Stoke City headed to Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League with the possibility of Jurgen Klopp’s side going second in the table – albeit temporarily – but it was not to be as the score ended 0-0.

The Reds were looking to back-up their midweek 5-2 demolition of Roma on Merseyside in the semi-final of the Champions League with an equally dominant performance.

But they struggled to match the heights of their European examination.

Pre-match the German manager urged the Anfield crowd to recreate an atmosphere akin to the one witnessed against the Italians on Tuesday.

But a stale first half led to a stale ambience amongst fans whose only excitement in the opening 45 came when Danny Ings thought he had given the home side the lead just before the break, only for it to be ruled offside.

The Potters were desperate for a victory to give them a shade of hope for survival and fought for every ball.

But supporters were on social media complaining about the display of £90,000-a-week man Gerginio Wijnaldum after the Dutchman struggled to recapture his heroics from Tuesday night against the Serie A side, and criticised him for shooting far too often from long-range.

With the second-leg in the Champions League coming up on Wednesday they will be hoping for a better display all-round, not just from Wijnaldum.

Here is a round-up of reaction on social media from supporters of the Reds about the player’s display:
