‘Disgrace’, ‘Down in my estimation’ – Rangers fans fume as icon pictured with Celtic banner

Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has sparked fury from Gers fans after being pictured outside the home of the Light Blues’ bitter rivals Celtic – with fans of the Ibrox giants incredulous at his decision to have a selfie taken with a Celtic banner prominently featured.

Ferguson had been at a promotional event for a charity game at the nearby Emirates Arena then watching the Champions League final at Celtic before being snapped by former Celtic star Simon Donnelly – which was then posted online, according to the Scottish Sun.

Gers fans were furious with their former captain over the picture – with one fan calling Ferguson a “disgrace” after appearing in front of a banner celebrating Celtic’s historic back-to-back treble success.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

The former midfielder had two spells at Ibrox as a player, lifting five Scottish titles, five Scottish Cups and five Scottish League Cups.

Ferguson was interviewed for a role in Pedro Caixinha’s backroom team but lost out to former team-mate Jonatan Johansson as Caixiha looked for a coach with knowledge of the Scottish game.

The midfielder set a number of appearance records for the Light Blues during his two stints at the club but left under a cloud following an incident on international duty with Scotland.
