‘Disgrace to the badge’ – Chelsea fans rip into starter who was a ‘visible liability’ vs Leeds
Chelsea’s players have felt the wrath of their fans after suffering a crushing 3-1 defeat to Leeds at Elland Road.
Chelsea‘s battling performance and hard-earned draw against league-leaders Arsenal was undone with a dismal showing against Leeds as everything went wrong for them on Wednesday (3 December) night.
Enzo Maresca‘s men were behind after just six minutes as Jaka Bijol headed the hosts in front, while Ao Tanaka doubled their lead just before the break with a fine strike.
Pedro Neto pulled one back for the visitors just after half-time, but their comeback efforts proved fruitless as Dominic Calvert-Lewin bagged late on to seal Leeds’ win.
Cole Palmer struggled on his return to Chelsea action, with many fans unsure if he should have featured, while another of his teammates was at fault for a goal and heavily criticised by their supporters as a result.
Tosin Adarabioyo had an awful game against Leeds
Tosin Adarabioyo has been trusted by Maresca to consistently start games for Chelsea this season despite being linked with an exit over the summer.
He returned to the side at centre-back against Leeds as the manager rotated heavily, but was mightily disappointing throughout as their recently impressive defensive record was decimated.
The 28-year-old failed to find a teammate with any of his four long balls, committed two fouls and won just one of his four ground duels all evening.
His poor performance was compounded in the 72nd minute as he was easily dispossessed by Noah Okafor in his penalty area before the Swiss international’s challenge with Robert Sanchez laid the ball on a plate for Calvert-Lewin to tap home for 3-1.
Chelsea fans slam Tosin after ‘worst ever’ performance in club’s history
This is not the first time Tosin has been criticised by Chelsea fans this season, after he also played poorly against Bayern Munich in another 3-1 defeat in September.
Their supporters took to X in their numbers to put him on blast once more after this game, with one saying: “Tonight should be the last game Tosin Adarabioyo ever plays for Chelsea. A disgrace to the badge. One of the worst defenders I have ever watched. Send him to the bomb squad NOW!!”
Another fan added: “Never want to see Tosin start again. Don’t know what happened to him this season but he has been terrible.”
While another highlighted just how bad they felt he had been, saying: “This Tosin performance is objectively the WORST ever in our history. easily trumps Sterling v Leicester, Ziyech v Zagreb, Bakayoko v Watford. this is really really bad.”
