Djed Spence expected to make full Tottenham debut ‘soon’ after development – expert

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte could hand Djed Spence his full debut in the coming weeks.

That is the view of former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 22-year-old’s situation in north London.

Spence has endured a difficult start to his time at Spurs.

However, the summer signing from Middlesbrough has been a late substitute in Tottenham’s last two Premier League fixtures.

He replaced Ivan Perisic in the dying stages of Spurs’ 2-0 loss to Man United on Wednesday (19 October).

As quoted by Football.London (17 October), Spence said he has been “learning a lot from training” and his new teammates.

When asked by Football Insider if Spence’s first start for the club may be around the corner, Robinson said: “I think so.

“Look, the manager has clearly not been happy with something, whether that be his match fitness or his application in training.

“Conte is a very demanding manager. If you are not absolutely right and ready to play you will not be in his squad. I think that has been the situation.

“Spence has clearly worked hard off the pitch and on the training ground. Now he is in the squad and coming onto the pitch.

“There is going to be injuries and suspensions with all of the games we have coming up. I can see him getting his chance soon. The game time will come.”
