‘Crystal clear’ – Kris Boyd hammers shock Rangers decision after loss v Celtic

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has hit out at the Gers for refusing to send anyone to speak to the media after the 5-0 Old Firm thrashing by Celtic on Sunday – saying it was “disappointing” that the Gers blanked the waiting media.

The Gers refused to put up a member of the coaching staff and player – as required by SPFL regulations – and Boyd believes it lets people write and say “what they want.”

Boyd also admitted it didn’t come as a surprise that nobody from Rangers was put forward – believed to have been a decision made by PR guru Jim Traynor – after the Parkhead capitulation.

“If you come out and are crystal clear and give your thoughts on the game and what went on round about it, that’s what people can take from it,” Boyd said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“If you don’t say anything, anybody can write what they want and say what they want.

“It was disappointing but it doesn’t come as a surprise anymore.”

The Light Blues have yet to officially make any comment on Sunday’s game with the club’s social media channels remaining silent other than coverage of the Under-17 City of Glasgow Cup win over their bitter rivals on Monday night.

The Light Blues face Boyd’s Kilmarnock on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership as they looks to secure second spot in the table in their final three fixtures.

Football Insider verdict:

There is nothing at Ibrox that comes as a surprise anymore although the decision not to put anyone forward to speak to the media – and the subsequent silence – has been absolutely laughable from the Gers. There is no excuse for leaving fans in the dark as they have and without even putting something out there in writing gives an insight into the contempt the board hold for the wider fanbase. It would not be a surprise if the next official comment is something designed to divert attention from the club’s failings – like a new sponsor or confirmation of Steven Gerrard taking charge.
