Dominic Calvert-Lewin shares message after Everton exit news: ‘It was a pleasure’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has sent a message out on social media amid news of his Everton exit emerging.

The striker’s future has been at the centre of a huge debate among Toffees supporters over the last few months, with his contract set to expire on 30 June after an injury-hit last campaign that saw him struggle to impact the club’s on-pitch fortunes.

The Sheffield-born ace has spent the majority of his career with the Merseyside outfit, after joining from boyhood club Sheffield United back in 2016.

Numerous injuries have significantly reduced his playing time over the last few years, but he can be a top Premier League forward when in-form, with his best goal return coming in 2020/21 as he netted 16 times in 33 league appearances.

Now 28-years-old, he looks to be coming to the end of his time at Everton, and he has taken to social media to issue a message in the hours after reports around his immediate future came out.

Football Insider recently revealed that Everton are resigned to losing Calvert-Lewin at the end of this month after he rejected multiple new contract offers, and The Times reported on Monday (9 June) that the 28-year-old is indeed set to depart the club after negotiations over a new deal stalled.

The Toffees have made an official statement [EvertonFC] insisting that they remain in talks with him about fresh terms, but an exit now looks imminent, and Calvert-Lewin has now taken to social media amid the uncertainty about his future.

He posted an Instagram story in reaction to a clip of his appearance on the High Performance podcast with Jake Humphrey while discussing the Toffees, adding the message: “It was a pleasure talking with you guys.”

The England international is clearly remaining coy about what he will decide to do this summer, but an update on his Toffees decision is surely set to emerge soon with not long to go until he is officially a free agent in July.

Football Insider verdict

Everton have not been a great club for any striker to be at in recent times, with Iliman Ndiaye being the only player that has netted double figures in all competitions across a single term for the Toffees in the last three seasons, following his 11 goals in 2024/25.

Calvert-Lewin has shown his pedigree as a great top-flight forward in certain spells across his time on Merseyside, and he has earned 11 caps for England, so clearly has the talent to be a top striker when he is trusted to be the main man up-front.

It seems unlikely that he will earn any kind of reprieve under David Moyes next season, especially with Everton plotting a move for ex-Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and so an exit would be best for all parties as he comes to the end of his contract.

The 28-year-old still has a lot of time left to continue to forge a great career for himself at the top-level, and is not set to be short of offers with Spurs, Manchester United, West Ham and Nottingham Forest all reported to be interested in his services, while Newcastle United have also explored the possibility of a move in recent months.
