Don Goodman blasts Aston Villa fans after unusual scenes in win vs Wolves – ‘It’s not very often…’

Don Goodman has taken aim at the Aston Villa supporters after their team beat Wolves 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Villans have been on an excellent run of late, but they were unable to fashion many quality chances as they edged past the Premier League’s bottom side on home turf, thanks to a stunning strike from Boubacar Kamara.

Aston Villa fans were seething with Evann Guessand after his below-par display in the victory over Young Boys in midweek, and it looked like being another frustrating afternoon for them at Villa Park for large parts of the game.

Unai Emery’s men extended their current winning run to five games in all competitions with the three points against their Midlands rivals on Sunday, but it could easily have been very different.

Don Goodman takes aim at Villa Park atmosphere

Rob Edwards was beaten in his first assignment as Wolves boss in their clash with Crystal Palace last week, and Villa would have been hoping to inflict yet more misery on them this time around.

However, they found it difficult to create clear-cut opportunities in front of the visitors’ goal throughout proceedings, with Edwards’ men arguably looking the more likely winners at times.

That prompted a fairly subdued atmosphere a Villa Park in the early stages of the second half, with only Kamara’s goal serving to lift the energy inside the ground.

The somewhat sleepy atmosphere was highlighted by Goodman during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game on Sunday.

“Listen to this stadium,” the former Wolves and West Brom striker said in the 50th minute.

We can hear the players shouting on the pitch. It’s not very often I’ve been to Villa Park, and it’s been like this.”

Aston Villa’s awful chance-creation stats revealed

Ollie Watkins has struggled for form at Aston Villa so far this term, and his issues have contributed to the team having serious difficulties in the final third at times.

The B6 outfit were unable to fashion enough opportunities to truly put the game to bed against Wolves, as their creative issues came to the fore once again.

Villa managed just one big chance throughout the 90 minutes, and while they were still able to win the game, it was a clear reminder as to a problem that still needs to be solved.

Emery’s men have created just 16 big chances all season, a tally which is higher than only two other Premier League teams, West Ham and the bottom club Wolves.

They may have got away with it on this occasion, but it would be no surprise to see Villa fail to escape with a result in their next toothless performance.
