Done deal: 29-year-old signs after Aston Villa agree terms
By Derek Smithson
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Midlands club confirmed on their official website that the 29-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at Villa Park.
He has become the third addition of the summer window following the captures of John Terry and Sam Johnstone.
Steve Bruce is known to be a big fan of the Egypt international and this is the third time he has signed him, with the pair previously working together at Sunderland and Hull.
Elmhohamady is a versatile player that can play at either right-back or as a right winger, something that makes him a great squad member.
He has previously been promoted twice from the Championship with Hull and will now hope to repeat that success with Villa.
Elmohamady was an ever-present in the Tigers side last season and made 37 appearances across all competitions, but was unable to help them suffer a relegation from the Premier League.
Football Insider verdict:
Bruce knows the type of squad needed to get out of the Championship and he has signed someone that he trusts. The 29-year-old may not be a standout player in the Premier League, but certainly has the quality to make a big impact in the Premier League. He has 77 international caps under his belt and will bring good know-how to the team. Elmohamady’s versatility also makes him a vital asset to the team as he is very accomplished along the entire right flank. The 46-game Championship campaign is a gruelling one and Bruce is going to need to rely upon a large portion of his squad if they are to win promotion.
