Done deal: Forward signs after Celtic agree terms

By Matt Bullin

Celtic have completed the signing of Aberdeen ace Jonny Hayes, it has been confirmed.

The 29-year-old wide forward has out pen-to-paper on a three-year deal and the move also sees Bhoys youngster Ryan Christie moving to the Dons on a season-long loan.

The Hoops announced Hayes’ arrival on their official website and on their official Twitter account on Saturday afternoon.

The confirmation comes after the Sun reported the 29-year-old was set to complete his move after flying into Glasgow on Friday evening.

The report claimed the four-time Republic of Ireland international had already undertaken a medical and that a three-year deal had been agreed.

Hayes was one of Aberdeen’s top performers last term, providing an incredible 24 assists in 44 league and cup games, as well as scoring 11 goals.

He arrived at Pittodrie in the summer of 2012 from Inverness, and he made 207 appearances in all competitions for the club, which yielded 30 goals and 71 assists.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and Hayes have previously worked together at Reading.

Football Insider verdict

Celtic’s treble winning side will be difficult to break into for Hayes, but there is no doubt he will strengthen their squad. His performances last season saw him earn many plaudits and a call-up into the Republic of Ireland senior squad for the first time. With strikers like Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths to aim at Hayes’ could supply more assists than ever, if he is given minutes by Rodgers.

In other Celtic transfer news, Huddersfield are ready to rival the Hoops in the race to sign this 20-year-old ace.
