Done deal: Leeds confirm eighth summer signing
By Danny Wright
Leeds have confirmed that they have signed Samuel Saiz for an undisclosed fee from Spanish Segunda Division outfit SD Huesca.
The Whites announced on their official Twitter account and official website on Thursday that the 26-year-old had completed his medical with the club and has become their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
He follows Vurnon Anita, Caleb Ekuban, Madger Gomes, Pontus Jansson, Matuesz Klich, Hadi Sacko and Felix Wiedwald in penning permanent deals with the Yorkshire giants, who are appearing to make steady progress in the transfer market under the charge of Thomas Christiansen.
Saiz has previously had spells with Real Madrid, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid’s development teams, and his switch to Leeds is his first adventure outside of his native Spain.
Last season, the attacking midfielder scored an impressive 12 goals and supplied nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions for Huesca as they narrowly missed out on promotion to La Liga.
Leeds will also be hoping to come close to promotion themselves next season, and will surely want to build on what Garry Monk achieved last term as they just came short of a spot in the Championship play-off spots.
Football Insider Verdict
Leeds have made some pretty solid additions to their side this summer, but Saiz’s arrival appears to be one of the most exciting yet. He is coming from a decent second tier side, to one at the same level in England with similar aspirations. A move to Elland Road is obviously a step up, but the fact that Saiz’s goals won’t have changed is massive in helping him getting settled down in England. The Spaniard could become the perfect foil for Chris Wood. Christiansen could use the pair as a strike force or use Saiz to play in behind the Kiwi. Wood’s height and power would seem to make him the perfect partner for the new arrival, who is a lot more technical and good with the ball at his feet.
In other Leeds news, these Champions League regulars have already had their chief executive open talks with the Whites for this key senior player.
