Done deal: Midfielder signs after West Ham agree terms
By Harvey Byrne
Midfielder Josh Cullen has signed a new three-year deal at West Ham, it was confirmed on Thursday.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that the 21-year-old had agreed the terms of a new contract before moving out on loan to Bolton in the Championship.
Now, two days later the Hammers have confirmed via their official Twitter account that the youth graduate has extended his stay for three more years.
Cullen has made just four senior appearances for West Ham so far in his career and his loan to Bolton marks his third temporary spell away from the east London club.
His first two loans saw him head to Bradford for the 2015-16 season and then the 2016-17 season after impressing at the club.
He also worked with now Bolton boss Phil Parkinson in his first season at Bradford and he will be hoping for similar success before returning to West Ham in January.
Football Insider verdict:
At his age you would be expecting Cullen to be pushing for a first team spot in the West Ham side and therefore he might not make it at the Hammers. However, the club are also showing their own faith in the midfielder by handing him an extended deal and that sows the side are still willing to offer opportunity to young players. But, Bolton are a lower tier Championship squad and while Cullen will get plenty of first team opportunities there it shows that he is not quite ready for the Premier League, which the best youngster are by the time they reach 21.
