Alex Wollerton has signed his first professional contract after agreeing terms with Leeds.

The teenager's management company Base Soccer Agency confirmed the news on their official Twitter account on Thursday evening.

The management company posted a picture of Wollerton signing his new deal along with a message which read: "Congratulations to Alex Wollerton who's signed his first professional contract at Leeds."

Wollerton, 17, is a highly-rated youngster who is currently progressing through the ranks of the Leeds youth set-up after a two-year scholarship with the Yorkshire club.

Leeds have already added a couple of new players to the senior ranks since last season ended.

Newly-appointed manager Thomas Christiansen has wasted no time in recruiting Mateuz Klich and Liverpool academy product Magder Gomes ahead of the 2017/18 Championship campaign.

Football Insider Verdict

Leeds' academy is one of the most important things about the club, and fans love seeing players progress through the ranks to play in the first-team. Like recent graduates Ronaldo Vieira, Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor, Wollerton will be hoping to one day have his chance to wow the Elland Road crowd, and being handed a professional contract means that he is clearly impressing the development squad's coaching staff. There's still a lot of work for Christiansen to do this summer. One of the things he will probably have to do in his time in Yorkshire is develop young players to keep with Leeds tradition, but he also still has a few key areas to strengthen in the senior squad.
