Done deal: Tottenham agree deal with 26-year-old

By Derek Smithson

Tottenham have announced that Kieran Trippier has signed a new contract with the club.

Spurs revealed on their personal Twitter account that the 26-year-old has agreed a new five-year deal, which is set to expire in 2022.

He first moved to the north London club in 2015 from Burnley and has been handed a new contract after his impressive performances last season.

Trippier is currently regarded as the first choice right-back in the Spurs squad following the departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino showed great faith in Trippier last season when he made him a permanent feature in the starting XI at the back-end of the campaign.

He is regarded as an attack minded full-back and he chipped in with seven assists in just 22 appearances last campaign.

The defender’s displays also earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad in June and he made his debut in a friendly against France.

Football Insider verdict:

Trippier is the natural successor to Walker ahead of the new season and many Spurs fans feel he is a better option. The 26-year-old has already proved that he is a brilliant asset going forward and can also stick to his defensive duties. He is certainly worthy of a new contract and he becomes the latest star name to commit their future to Pochettino’s side in the past year. Trippier is capable of playing in either full-back or wing-back position, making him a vital asset to the squad. Spurs now need to turn their attention to signing some new players as they are the only Premier League side yet to bring anyone in during the window.

In other Tottenham transfer news, they are set to submit a £20million-plus deal for a Champions League winner.
