‘Don’t you ever leave me out again’ – Midfielder responds to Bruce after Aston Villa axe

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has revealed that Albert Adomah’s performance against Barnsley on Saturday will ensure that he keeps his place in the squad.

The 29-year-old winger impressed at the weekend and scored two goals during his side’s 3-0 win in the Championship at the Oakwell.

Adomah notched the opening goal 19 minutes into the game and later confidently fired home a penalty to ensure Villa entered half-time 2-0 up.

The Ghana international was left out of Steve Bruce’s squad which faced Brentford and was also sidelined for his side’s clashes against Norwich and his former club Bristol City, but Bruce has revealed that his response has secured him a place in the squad.

“Albert has responded in the best possible way, I’ve left him out the team and he’s responded in the best possible way – and he stays in,” Bruce explained, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

“I think that’s what is key to having a successful squad. He’s obviously disappointed but he’s gone about it magnificently as if to say: ‘I’ll show you! Give me my chance’.

“He’s just said to me: ‘Don’t you ever leave me out again!’”

The midifelder moved from Middlesbrough last summer in a four-year-deal but only managed to score three goals during his 41 appearances across all competitions in his debut season.

Adomah has already matched last year’s goals in just six appearances and it looks like he’s hoping to continue his goal scoring run.

Villa face Middlesbrough again just seven days after last hosting the Yorkshire side as they go head-to-head in the EFL Cup.

Following their midweek game, Nottingham Forest will travel to Villa Park for their next Championship match as Bruce’s side continue to push higher up the standings.

In other Aston Villa news, the boss has given a number of players a second chance at the club after wanting a summer exit.
