‘Door opens’ for Guglielmo Vicario to quit Tottenham for new club

Guglielmo Vicario may be open to a move back Italy amid questions over his goalkeeping ability at Tottenham.

The Italian has come under fire for avoidable mistakes during his time in north London, but his latest performances have left fans frustrated.

Vicario struggled against Man United on 8 November, where his mistakes ultimately cost Spurs taking all three points.

Similarly, Vicario had a howler against Fulham on 29 November, giving the ball away far from his goal for Harry Wilson to sweep in from long range into an empty net, enraging the home crowd.

Inter Milan could look to take advantage of troublesome Vicario-fan relations

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Italian is currently not on best terms with Spurs supporters after his latest set of mistakes.

Despite the negativity in north London, sources told Football Insider that Tottenham won’t plan to sell Vicario in January.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over the possibility of a summer exit instead, I explained: “He’s on the contract until 2028.

“We know Inter Milan are probably going to be in the market for a new keeper next summer with Yann Sommer coming to the end of his contract at the San Siro.

“The player is maybe looking for a move back to Italy that could open the door for him into Milan but, right now, he’s still Spurs’ number one.

“He’s still a member of Spurs’ leadership group as well so that shows how highly thought of he is within the dressing room and with Thomas Frank as well that he remains a key part of their plans.”

Tottenham to ramp up pursuit for Igor Thiago in January

Although discontent is set to remain in between the sticks in the short-term, the Lilywhites have long yearned for a ruthless finisher up front.

They may have found their answer with sources telling Football Insider that Tottenham are in the hunt for Igor Thiago in January.

The Brazilian has been a revelation this season at Brentford, quickly becoming one of the hottest properties in the Premier League.

Yet, Frank won’t find it easy to land the 24-year-old as the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa are also expected to pursue the ex-Club Brugge man.
