Doucoure, Gueye: Updates on new Everton contracts

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye are both unsure if they’ll be offered new deals by Everton this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Everton are set for a transitional summer both on and off the pitch, with five loanees in line to return to parent clubs, nine players out of contract, and their move from Goodison Park to Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Friedkin Group have laid the groundwork for Everton’s move across the city to be a success, but players such as Doucoure and Gueye are in similar situations with regards to their futures on Merseyside.

Sources have told Football Insider that as things stand, Doucoure isn’t in line to be offered a new deal, despite a strong run of recent form which has led to a turnaround in Everton fans’ views of the veteran.

Gueye has also not been offered a new contract as things stand, although Football Insider sources have said that David Moyes is keen to keep hold of the 35-year-old and sees him as a starting midfielder.

Everton ‘playing waiting game’ over key duo’s contracts

Everton have already made decisions over several of their out-of-contract players, and Football Insider revealed on 20 April that defender Michael Keane will “definitely” leave the Toffees at season’s end.

Sources have now told Football Insider that while Doucoure’s future is up in the air, Everton officials are in agreement with Moyes’ viewpoint on Gueye, and a new deal could therefore soon be on the table.

Gueye’s form has been far from infallible at Goodison Park this season, but as the Toffees prepare to farewell over potentially a dozen players this summer, Moyes is keen to maintain some small continuity.

Gueye to be one of few survivors as Everton swing axe

Although Gueye could yet be offered new terms by Everton and Doucoure looks bound for the exit door on Merseyside, neither have been the priority when it comes to contract talks within the Toffees’ squad.

Football Insider revealed on 9 May that Everton are still keen to tie Dominic Calvert-Lewin down to a new deal despite his runs of injuries and poor form in recent seasons, in a saga which has run for over a year.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson urged clubs like Newcastle to run a mile from Calvert-Lewin, and while Doucoure and Gueye haven’t attracted as much interest, all three players’ contract disputes are a sign of Everton’s struggles to move on from the past.
