Dr Dan: Man City ‘hold all the aces’ after radical Guardiola proposal
Man City players “hold all the aces” and could play a big role in forcing changes around player welfare in the Premier League.
So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Pep Guardiola’s remarks regarding a possible player strike.
As quoted by The Guardian last Thursday (23 December), he asked: “Should the players and the managers be all together and make a strike?”

The City boss was referencing the clamour for more consideration to be paid to player welfare amid the hectic fixture programme and Covid crisis.
Plumley claims that collective action is a last resort but could be a powerful weapon in disillusioned Premier League players’ arsenal.
“It’s tough because they are holding all the aces,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“But the only way you can do it is to walk out. They are at odds over what should happen.
“The problem for the players is that it is the fans that they are impacting.
“That is the pressure on them because it is easy to pop-shot at them because of the wages they earn.
“It is the ultimate threat to try and bring about a change but there are lots of questions to be asked.
“It would have to be as a collective, through the PFA. They need that backing.”

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has also spoken out publicly about player welfare, which he feels is not taken seriously.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte meanwhile has voiced his frustrations about the dialogue between the Premier League and concerned managers.
