Should have been dropped: Arsenal fans furious with 34-year-old starting v Hull
By Dominic Toner
Petr Cech retained his place in the Arsenal goal on Saturday – and the club’s supporters were furious with his inclusion on Twitter.
The veteran goalkeeper has been named in the starting XI against Hull, despite making a huge error in the 3-1 defeat against Chelsea.
He has played in every minute of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign this season and has managed to keep that record going.
Arsene Wenger has decided to make just one change to his team, with Kieran Gibbs replacing Nacho Monreal at left-back.
The Gunners fans voiced their frustration that Cech was kept in the side and believe that David Ospina should have replaced him.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Cech has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper since his arrival from London rivals Chelsea, but has come under criticism for his performances this season.
The 34-year-old has kept seven clean sheets this campaign and is an ever-present in the side, but has been blamed for being too inconsistent.
He will hope for a quiet afternoon on Saturday against relegation threatened Hull, who shocked Liverpool 2-0 in their last game.
Ospina has been the club’s goalkeeper in European matches and is likely to retain his place for the Champions League knockout ties with Bayern Munich.
In other Arsenal team news, the club’s supporters have reacted on Twitter to Olivier Giroud’s award snub.
