Early Celtic team news: Reliable journalist shares striker update ahead of clash v Rosenborg

By Harry Sykes

Leigh Griffiths is set to be on the substitute’s bench for Celtic’s Champions League showdown against Rosenborg on Wednesday night, according to a reliable journalist.

The prolific striker has been sidelined with a calf problem but returned to training at the Hoops’ Lennoxtown base yesterday morning before the team flew out to Norway in the afternoon.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested he would play Griffiths in the crucial second leg clash even if he was not 100 per cent fit.

But Scottish Sun chief football writer Robert Grieve reported on his personal Twitter account three hours before kick-off that the Scotland international is not likely to be in the starting XI.

Griffiths missed the first leg, which saw the Bhoys labour to a 0-0 draw at Celtic Park, while senior striker Moussa Dembele is sidelined until September.

Rodgers had to field a team without a recognised striker last Wednesday as midfielder Tom Rogic started in attack.

Celtic could again turn to the Australian attacking midfielder, while winger James Forrest and central midfielder Callum McGregor are other options.

McGregor scored a hat-trick in the Hoop’s demolition of Sunderland last weekend.

In other Celtic transfer news, Football Insider has revealed the Hoops are in the hunt to sign a dazzling attacking midfielder as late window interest to reach fever pitch.
