Eddie Howe ‘annoyed’ by triple Newcastle United blow – expert

Eddie Howe will be “annoyed” at the latest injury news out of Newcastle United.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how Howe may respond after a new bout of injury blows.

As per Craig Hope on Thursday (22 September), Alexander Isak, 23, left the Sweden camp after suffering an injury while on international duty.

Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood have also suffered injuries, as per The Athletic‘s Chris Waugh.

Newcastle are already without Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin ahead of their Premier League clash against Fulham next weekend (1 October).

McLeish insists Newcastle don’t yet have the squad depth to adequately replace their best players.

“It’s just something you deal with, as a manager,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“It must be frustrating for Eddie Howe, to not be able to put your best team out but that’s life sometimes.

“I had that, players coming back from internationals injured and there is just nothing you can do.

“Newcastle have made good signings but they don’t have the squad yet. So when one of their best players goes down, there isn’t much there.

“That will come in time. At the moment you have to rely on Eddie and his tactics. He knows how to win games, he has an excellent record up at Newcastle.

“He must just feel a bit stuck and annoyed he may have to change his plan.”

Record signing Isak has scored two goals in three games for his new side.
