Eddie Howe ‘will get knighted’ after Newcastle United latest – pundit
Frank McAvennnie has claimed Eddie Howe “will get knighted” for his work at Newcastle United this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Newcastle will secure a place in the Champions League next season.
The Magpies are currently third in the Premier League and are just one point behind second placed Man City who have a game in hand.
Howe’s side secured a place in the League Cup semi-final with a 2-0 win over Leicester City last week (10 January).
The positive result came just days after their shock FA Cup exit after a 2-1 defeat to League One side Sheffield Wednesday.
Howe made eight changes to his side that drew 0-0 with Arsenal on 3 January for the Cup clash.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the defeat (7 January), the Magpies’ boss acknowledged that he does not have the “deepest” squad of any team in the league and he feels “low on numbers”.
McAvennie insisted Newcastle will face similar squad problems if they secure European football next season.
“You are playing all year to get to Europe and play against the best then teams say they do not have enough of a squad to play so often,” he told Football Insider.
“I do not like managers that say that. You have just got to adapt and adjust.

“They will get Champions League, I can’t see Tottenham doing it and Liverpool and Chelsea are way off at the moment.
“What a season that is. Eddie Howe will get knighted, they will be measuring him for a statue and him and his back-room team will be loving it.“
