Edouard blasted by pundit over reported demands amid Celtic transfer latest

Alan Hutton has slammed Odsonne Edouard for reportedly demanding a big-money contract to quit Celtic ahead of the transfer deadline.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old needs to prove himself before he can ask for a significant deal in the Premier League.

As reported by the Scottish Sun (14th August), both Southampton and Brighton have baulked at Edouard’s £85,000-a-week demands.

Meanwhile, the Express (24th August) claim West Ham have also turned down the chance to sign the Celtic hitman.

Edouard’s contract at Parkhead runs out next summer.

Hutton insisted the Frenchman has every right to try test himself in the Premier League.

However, he blasted the striker for demanding such a lucrative deal to leave Celtic.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s not proved himself down there, for a start. I don’t think he can start bandying around his demands, I want this, I want that.

“I think if you want to move and you want to test yourself in the Premier League, fair enough, go down and do that. You still have to prove yourself.

“He will have to go down and score goals and then, if you go down and do well, you can talk that way.

I don’t think you can, right off the bat, just start saying: ‘I want this. I’m not leaving if I don’t get big enough wages.’

“It’s all about proving yourself. Show what you’ve got on the pitch, let that do the talking. Don’t worry about everything else, that takes care of itself.

“I think he just needs to knuckle down and work hard. The rest comes with good performances.”
