‘Embarrassing’ Everton fans lambasted as scenes branded ‘disgraceful’ – pundit
Frank McAvennie has slammed Everton fans for invading the pitch after their game against Crystal Palace on Thursday (19 May).
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, labelled the fans who ran onto the pitch at full time “embarrassing”.
Fans ran onto the pitch after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late winner and returned once the game was finished.
The result confirmed the Toffees’ survival with one game left of the season.
McAvennie can’t understand why fans rushed the pitch after such a poor season.
“What were those guys doing?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“You have stayed in the league, not won the cup. I get what it means to the club.
“I would not be celebrating if I had just stayed in the league like that, it’s been a dreadful season.
“If you win the league, get into Europe, then I get it. But winning that game, the scenes were disgraceful by the way.
“The way those fans behaved with the Palace players and Vieira, it’s just not on.
“To be honest, it’s embarrassing. I’m delighted for the club, they are a huge club and they should be in the Premier League but they are better than a pitch invasion for that.”

Everton travel to top four-chasing Arsenal on the final day of the season (22 May).
They could finish as high as 15th if Southampton lose their final game against Leicester City.
