Emerson Royal facing Tottenham axe after what expert has spotted

Alan Hutton has backed Pedro Porro to replace Emerson Royal at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back said Porro will see Emerson’s injury as his chance to replace him in the starting XI when he returns from injury.

On 28 March, the club confirmed that Emerson suffered a knee injury whilst on international duty with Brazil that required surgery.

It has been reported that the 24-year-old is set to face up to six weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from his operation.

Porro, 23, filled in for Emerson in the 3-3 draw with Southampton (18 March) before the international break and scored his first goal for the club.

The right-back has also been in hot water behind the scenes of the club and had a training ground bust-up with a member of the coaching staff during Antonio Conte’s reign.

When asked if Porro will use this opportunity to try and secure his place in the starting XI, Hutton told Football Insider:Definitely and I think that is how he will see it.

He was obviously waiting for an opportunity. They were chopping and changing when it came to the wing-back situation.

Porro did not have the greatest start but he seems a very confident guy. You can tell with his free-kicks and his deliveries and stuff that he would back himself.

He is waiting for an opportunity, he was at a new club so it was always going to take a bit of time. I am looking forward to seeing him progress at the moment because there is obviously an opportunity for a long run in the team.
