Emiliano Martinez rejects Aston Villa transfer after agent reveal
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has rejected a move to Saudi Arabia, sources have told Football Insider.
Contact has been made from the Saudi Pro League over a potential deal, but interest has been knocked back by the 32-year-old.
Martinez is holding out for a move to another European club and would be ‘open’ to transferring to another Premier League club.
Football Insider understands there is concrete interest from Man United as they look to shake up their goalkeeping department ahead of next season.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham could also join the race for the Argentine’s signature.

Aston Villa resigned to losing star player in PSR battle
Martinez recently changed agents after being taken on as an A-list client of super-agent Jorge Mendes and his renowned Gestifute agency.
Universal Twenty Two, whose other star client is Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, had previously been listed as Martinez’s representatives.
Season | Appearances | Clean Sheets |
20/21 | 38 | 15 |
21/22 | 36 | 11 |
22/23 | 36 | 11 |
23/24 | 34 | 8 |
24/25 | 37 | 8 |
Villa need to sell a prize asset by the 30 June deadline in order to meet profit and sustainability rules, and the former Arsenal stopper is just one star name who could potentially leave.
Martinez was seen in floods of tears after Villa’s final home game of last season in an apparent farewell to the club’s fans, heightening expectations that Unai Emery’s number one will be on his way out.

Onana one of six on Old Trafford chopping block
As reported by Football Insider, Man United keeper Andre Onana is one of six first-team regulars facing the axe at Old Trafford this summer.
Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Josua Zirkzee and Casemiro are among the other regular starters at risk of leaving the club.
The clear-out comes after the Red Devils suffered their worst ever Premier League finish last season, ending the campaign in 15th place with just 42 points.
Last month, Football Insider reported that Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal are set to make an £80million bid for Fernandes – a move that could spark a major exodus over the coming weeks and months.
