‘Enzo Maresca to be sacked over Djordje Petrovic’ – Chelsea fans erupt
Chelsea fans are all but unanimously calling for Enzo Maresca to be sacked following a decision made on Djordje Petrovic despite his fantastic form in France.
Petrovic joined Strasbourg last summer on loan, having been squeezed out of a place in Chelsea’s bloated squad with multiple options already available in goal.
The Serbian goalkeeper made 31 appearances in Ligue 1, playing a key role in helping Liam Rosenior’s side to a strong campaign in the French top flight. His consistent form and shot-stopping ability quickly won over supporters — not just in Strasbourg, but also back at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fans have previously called for Petrovic to become the club’s first-choice keeper, especially amid Robert Sanchez’s patchy performances over the season.
With his loan spell now concluded, Petrovic was expected to return in time for the Club World Cup. However, a decision by the club regarding his future that has left fans furious.

Enzo Maresca leaves Djordje Petrovic out of Club World Cup squad
Matt Law of The Telegraph revealed that Petrovic will not be part of Chelsea’s squad for the upcoming Club World Cup, despite failing in a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
He added that several clubs have shown interest in the 25-year-old, and this latest call from Maresca may accelerate a summer exit.
Football Insider previously reported that Chelsea are open to selling Petrovic as part of their wider plan to strengthen the goalkeeping department.
Despite his excellent loan spell at Strasbourg, his parent club appear set on moving him on rather than integrating him into the first team.
Chelsea fans call for Enzo Maresca sack after Petrovic snub
Chelsea were in talks to sign AC Milan’s Maignan earlier this week, but negotiations stalled with the two clubs unable to agree a fee.
With the French international now off the table and the Club World Cup approaching, Maresca’s decision to leave out Petrovic has left fans both frustrated and confused.
Chelsea supporters have already voiced concerns over Robert Sanchez, who endured an error-prone season yet continues to be backed by the head coach. The omission of Petrovic, who many fans see as the club’s best option in goal, has only intensified criticism of Maresca’s decisions.
One fan wrote: “The fact Maresca is setting up the stage for how his sack will come is unbelievable,” while another posted, “If Maresca doesn’t immediately put Petrovic in over Sanchez, sack him.”
